Rules of Being a Lady

Hey Preps!

Do those of you who have Tumblr, check out The Rules of Being a Lady.  I was browsing today, and couldn't help but fall in love with some of these rules.  These truly are awesome guidelines for a preppy southern lady.  Here are my favorites:

Rule No. 1

Cowboy boots can work with every outfit. Wear your boots proudly, and often.
Rule No. 6
Always use manners when speaking.  Phrases like, “Yes please” or “Thank you ma’am” should happen multiple times every day.  One of the most classy things a girl can do is always use impeccable manners.  And people will notice.
Rule No. 12
Always remember where you came from.  Be proud of it.  It’s what makes you who you are.

Rule No. 13

When welcoming guests into your home (or apartment, dorm room, or sorority house) you best have something baking.  There is nothing more welcoming than a big smile and the smell of fresh baked cookies.
Rule No. 16
Pay compliments.  If you have something nice to say, never keep it to yourself.  Paying a heartfelt compliment to someone might be the only nice thing they will hear all day.  And it will make you feel warm and fuzzy inside.

Rule No. 17

Be thankful.  Be sure to thank those who impact your life.

Rule No. 22

No one likes the drunkest person at the party.  Know your limits. (picture is an example of what NOT to do)
Rule No. 24
Surround yourself with happy memories of happy people.  Having lots of pictures around makes every room better.
Rule No. 27
Always keep your word.  If you tell someone you are going to do something or be somewhere, do it.  Your word should mean something.  Never forget that.

Rule No. 33

Write Thank You notes.  A handwritten note means so much these days.

Rule No. 38

Hard work will pay off down the road.  If you put in the effort now, the rewards will be so much better when you finally get them.

Rule No. 43

Never be the loudest person in the room.  Have your voice heard but do not bethat loud girl.  It’s tacky and you will quickly be dismissed as an attention seeker.  That is not a good thing.

Rule No. 55

Never hesitate to drop everything for a friend in need.  They need you more than you can imagine.  And bring a casserole or a pie.

Rule No. 57

Cherish every single moment you are lucky enough to spend with your family.  They may drive you absolutely insane but in the end, they are all that matters.
Rule No. 62
Everything should appear effortless.  Work hard but do it with poise, grace, and above all ease.

Rule No. 67

You should own a dress that is appropriate for every occasion.  You never want to have to rush to buy a new dress for something that comes up suddenly.

Rule No. 76

Know how to make a mean Mint Julep.  And Mimosa.  And Bloody Mary
Rule No. 77
At the very least, have a basic understanding of football, basketball, and baseball.  You don’t have to be an expert but know the basics.  Let your boy teach you the rest.  (at STEELER training camp)

Rule No. 81

The higher the standard you set for yourself will reflect on those around you. If you talk with your mouth full, you are sure to attract others that do the same.  Likewise, if you constantly use proper manners and grammar, you will attract those that do the same.

Rule No. 91

Do not ever let someone tell you that you can’t or that you’re not worth it.  That is absolutely ridiculous and should never have any doubts about that.
