Hi Preps!
It's Friday! Pat and two other little (not really little but I like calling them that) midshipmen are almost to my house! Not just my house, but my HOUSE. The one I grew up in and scribbled all over my walls. This picture was taken in it. A little bare, but let me tell you, I definitely spared you the embarrassing parts of it. Anyways, tomorrow is my girlfriend's 21st birthday! So we are going OUT!
____________________________________________________________________________________
Therefore, I have decided... I am wearing pink AND ruffles. Why? Because it's the weekend, and it's what I do best!
Hope ya'll have a relaxing and blessed weekend!

Don't Be a Rock... When You Really Are a Gem
Hey Preps!
Today has kinda been a lazy day given the fact that it is approaching one of my last days off. So I cannot seem to think of enough awesomes or awkwards for today. Therefore, I thought I'd share some thing special about my life... Grandma. You know, the amazing lady who lets you eat too many cookies, stay up too late, and sews your stuffed lamb back together when a mean dog rips it apart. Yes, we have all had someone truly special and inspirational in our lives. However, sometimes I feel as if my someone special time was cut short...
My grandma put up a two year battle with ovarian cancer. They found it late, stage 3, which means the cancer has spread throughout the body. She knew from the start that she would not out live the cancer, but that didn't stop her from living, and living exceptionally at that. From creating her own community outreach that helped under priviledged families have the clothes, food, and opportunities they needed...to allowing the doctors to experiment with new drugs (which are now greatly used across the country) to help future cancer patients...she never stopped giving of herself. Did I mention she always was stylish too? Oh yes, big jewelry until the very end.
She truly is my inspiration, and one day I hope to be half the exceptional lady she was.
To tie this all in, every year, one of the biggest events in my preppy town is "Polo For The Cure" you can see a button on the side of my blog about it. However, it is to end cancer. It really hits home for me, and is definitely an amazing and rewarding fundraiser to go to. So please observe a spring event that I cannot wait to attend as we approach warmer weather! All the pictures are from last year!

I absolutely adore the sayings on the inside of these. The first says, "Wear Pink and Make the Boys Wink" and the second one says, "Follow the Sun". How adorable are these? I will definitely be getting a pair for this summer!
Also, VERY IMPORTANT Miss Preppy Southerner is having an amazing Lilly Pulitzer giveaway on her lovely blog! Be sure to enter! You will not want to miss this!

The History Behind Our Beloved Sperry Shoes
Hey Preps!
Today is Semi-Wordless Wednesday (although I may be using more than usual)! Let us travel back through the history of one of the preppiest inventions in history:
Original Sperry that allowed the safety of many sailors while manning slippery surfaces while at sea.
In 1939, The United States Naval Academy negotiated the right to manufacture Sperrys and issue them to their sailors. (Pat was issued a pair his plebe year at the academy) As a result of the Navy's manufacturing, Sperry Top-siders was purchased by the U.S. Rubber Co.
In the 1950's Sperry sneakers and boat shoes became very popular due to the restrictions of leather during World War II. They skyrocketed in the 60's when America idolized the Kennedy family's All American style featuring their sneakers.
Bringing it home, the first picture, Pat and I in Annapolis (the exact location of the Sperry craze beginnings), where I am wearing pink and brown, plaid, duck boots from Sperry Top-sider. The next picture, Pat and I are in Shady Side, where Pat is wearing his issued Sperrys from The Naval Academy.

Today is Semi-Wordless Wednesday (although I may be using more than usual)! Let us travel back through the history of one of the preppiest inventions in history:
First designed by Paul Sperry in 1935, His successful design was inspired by the pattern of grooves or cracks on his dog's feet and combined a leather upper-shoe with a herringbone pattern of grooves on the sole. It the first boat shoes introduced to the boating market, and have never left since.

Now worn by preps across the country, in a vast variety of styles, colors, and conveniences. (I have the boots above) Shown in a previous post....and below. Sperry is now known as an All American family company, with it's comfortable soles and good quality. Tommy Hilfiger, J. Crew, and other preppy brands have also adopted Sperrys into their clothing lines.
It now is the sponsor of many sailing excursions, races, and competitions.
This is the 75th anniversary shoe released last spring (2010)
