Awkward and Awesome Thursday

Awkward:

• My Evolution and Systematics professor could not seem to get the DVD player on her laptop to work.  My mistake? Offering mine up for her use (mainly because I logically thought that would mean no lecture, just movie).  She flips open my screen.  There is my background...Pat in his dress whites uniform, and I dressed up for the Flight 93 Memorial service.  This turns into a fifteen minute question and answer with her about Pat and The United States Naval Academy (yes, I bolded it...Pat will be proud).  The only issue? My entire class was dead silent, intently listening to Kalyn's love life.  I just wanted to shout, "AS YOU WERE!" (make Pat proud again)
• My bright red snowflake socks that you could see beneath my Sperry's.  It was cold! I don't like cold toes! People noticed.  My feet were a constant distraction all day.  I am now aspiring to be a foot model.  Any takers?
• Sprinting my little legs out at the gym today after lacrosse practice (getting cruise ready), and seeing my high school boyfriend of three years for the first time in about a year.  I was looking FINE let me tell you.  Sweat pouring out of me, red faced, puffing away, and he decides to come talk to me.  Not my best conversation for sure.  However, you want to know a secret? Pat makes him look like a twig.  I'm talking I could probably break this guy in half now.  Pat also makes him look like a complete scrub...but I will be nice.  It's just awesome to look back on life, and see why God closed doors you really wanted left open. If I didn't move south to college initially, I would never have met Pat in the crazy way I did...I would be a very different person.  Sometimes you just have to thank God he didn't let you get what you wanted. Regardless, ex-boyfriend and I are on good terms. 

Awesome:

• All tests and assignments are completed.  Tomorrow is Friday, but is also the start of SPRING BREAK! Woo hoo getting crazy in south-of-the-boarder Pittsburgh!  However, tomorrow means two weeks until Pat and I are cruising the Caribbean.  No complaints.
• Saturday is an official shopping spree through Annapolis and possibly Georgetown for Pat and I.  (Pat's idea mind you) We are getting cruise apparel!
• Today Pat and I have been dating for a very long time.  He's pretty awesome.  I'm pretty mushy. 
• My dad discussing polite nose picking techniques with me at dinner.  Or is that awkward?

Currently, I am putting together some borderline wintery/spring outfits to wear to Annapolis this weekend that are crisp and won't cause me to freeze, and I thought I'd show you my inspirations:

Wellies Make the Snow Better

Everywhere.
While most colleges are cancelled in Pittsburgh (and all high schools), my college decided they still want me to fight against the elements to make it to possibly my least favorite class in my entire college career.  So, to cheer myself up.  Today, I am not dressing up.  I refuse.

Instead I am wearing the comfiest sweatshirt know to man, an oversized NAVY hoodie that smells like Pat and is quite a few sizes too big for me.  Then, I will somehow manage to slide into some fleece leggings, finishing off with my beloved dark blue Wellies with nice thick socks.  Sounds like a very warm plan to me.  In case you didn't notice, I hate being cold.  But maybe my shoes will cheer me up a bit!

We All Remember Saddle Shoes

Do you remember the day you learned how to tie your shoes?

Milestones like that have such impact on your life.  For example, the day I wore my first pair of oversized brown-rimmed glasses (from the 90's).  That was an era of my life I probably wouldn't go back to.  I definitely had my fair share of feelings hurt during that stage.  However, one milestone I was so proud of was the first day I tied my shoes...all by myself.  I can even tell you what kind of shoes I was wearing...

Yep. You guessed it.  Saddle shoes.  Black and white ones with a small wooden heel.  I remember singing the "Bunny Song" as I successfully tied those suckers.  I can tell you where I was sitting, the whole deal.  However, I won't make you suffer through the insignificant details.  

Guess what though?

I am sure you have seen the Oxford shoes that have been the rave for the past two seasons.  I am also sure you have seen the Oxford pumps that girls all over America have decided to bombard their college campuses with.  BUT HAVE YOU SEEN THESE?

These Navy saddle shoes will most definitely find their way into my closet this spring.  They are perfect to dress up a casual blazer and shorts combination...or to wear with a casual dress or skirt.  I am beyond excited to create outfits with these beauties.  As a matter of fact, I already did on Polyvore:

Hey Preps!

It's Monday alright! Hope you all are in warmer climates than the current conditions of Pittsburgh.  If not, God bless you! So, I have four days before it is my very own spring break.  Too bad that Pat's and my cruise doesn't set sail for another three weeks.  (Boo right?) However, since the past few weeks have been so busy, I just wanted to apologize.  Have a long list of posts I want to write, and haven't been able to get around to them.  In the meantime, I came across this picture on Tumblr today, and fell in love.  Let me share:

It makes me desperately want spring to come.  Last week gave me false hope, and now all I can do is think about how badly I need to be in sundresses again.  Here are a few pictures from my weekend, and hopefully after my studying tonight, I can write a few posts that I have been itching to.  Happy President's Day to you all.  We are all so beyond blessed thanks to those who have sacrificed before us, and continue to sacrifice daily for each of our lives.

Style: Of a Navy Officer (In Training)

Happy Wednesday!

We are half-way to the weekend folks!  It sounds like every one's weeks have started out right given that it was the holiday we all hate, yet can't help but participate in.  I could spend time rambling about my mushy musings of what Pat and I did to celebrate, but I will spare you, just this once.  I will mention (as I did previously this week) that I spent the weekend in Annapolis with him.  There is one thing Pat and I are very good at.  That is spending money (too much according to my financial advising mother).

If there is one place that I could spend all my money in one day, it would be Annapolis.  There is just too much for me to handle, from boutiques selling Lilly Pulitzer, to Sperry Top Sider sales; every brand a prep would kill for is there.  In addition, I could eat all day in Annapolis.  I'm talking crepes filled with Nutella and strawberries to their famous eateries, it's all just mouth-watering.

However, today I am not going to gush about my finds this weekend, but the shopping addiction of my boyfriend and his fellow shipmates.  Friday night, I got in to Annapolis for a late dinner, but as soon as Pat and his friend (who exchanged at Air Force with him last semester) who we endearingly call, Huck, jumped in my car and would not stop gushing about this new men's shop that they found Ralph Lauren Polo's at for $25 big ones! Talk about a deal!

So the next day, Pat could not wait to get back to the shop (I find it hilarious when he turns into a Kalyn version of a shopaholic, I must be a bad influence)  The store is called Laurance ~ Annapolis.  Here is a quick snapshot of the store, and some of the brands they carry:

Since Pat and I have to be apart during the week, we spent this weekend roaming around Annapolis, shopping, eating too many chocolate covered strawberries, and having a lot of time to catch up.  I couldn't have asked for better time spent with him, and already miss him way too much. However, Annapolis gave me a few blog inspirations for this week, so stay tuned!
