Anchored by J. Crew Flip Flops

Hey Preps!

I apologize for my lack of posts lately, I have been just traveling and working a ton!  Last week though, Mommy went Outlet shopping, and look what J. Crew had (for under $10)!  This is definitely "OLD" J. Crew...and they make me very happy...

I have been looking for these everywhere!

(Please excuse my gross...chipped nail polish...and injured feet.  I blame it on my weekly running mileage.)

Nantucket? No, Bald Head Island

Hey Preps!

In less than a month I will be soaking up the sun on one of the preppiest islands in America.  Have you ever heard of Bald Head Island?

Off the coast of North Carolina, Bald Head Island was a hub during the 17th and 18th centuries when pirates ruled the waters of the tropical Americas.  Known as a refuge for famous pirates such as Blackbeard, and Steve Bonnet.

Early river pilots were responsible for giving the Village its unique and descriptive name. Eager to offer their navigational services to ships approaching the entrance to the Cape Fear River, they took up watch on a high dune headland on the southwest point on the island. According to local lore, the headland was worn bare of vegetation, making it stand out in contrast to the forest behind it. This "bald" headland served as a reference point for ships entering the river, and the name Bald Head Island has endured.

Fame was brought to Bald Head Island in 1817 when the, now trademark, Old Baldy Lighthouse was built.  Today the lighthouse stands, and you can still climb all 108 steps to the top.


This historic island can only be arrived at by ferry.  Every summer, my family and I take the long trek down to Southport, NC...and park our car at the ferry station for a week.  

No car for a week?  Doesn't that sound tough?


Not when the only vehicles on the island are golf carts!
It is often an issue between family members who gets to drive...as you can see above, usually my little sister wins these arguments.  



Also on the island are two private beach clubs...we belong to the Shoal Club which is shown above.  It's a great alternative to the beach if you don't feel like getting sandy.  

But if you do choose to get sandy, the beach is just a boardwalk away.

So what else is so great about BHI?

The shopping!  That sells everything a prep could desire!

Recreationally, they have so much to do...from biking, sailing, boating, to even surfing (thanks to the east side of the island).  There is a great golf at the exclusive Bald Head Island Club...and for the fitness junkies there are three great gyms located on the island.

Finally, the tradition found at BHI is second to none...the same families come back to vacation the same weeks each summer...and you bet we have made some great friendships out of it.  


Only 20 more days until I'm there!

The Reason for the Weekend

Hey Preps!


Today was hard.  Really hard.  As we all celebrate the Fourth of July weekend with barbecues, fireworks, and fun with family and friends...it has been hard for me to be truly happy.  I am probably one of the most positive people you will ever meet.  I always try to find good in every situation, and am so blessed in my life.  Yet today, someone was missing from all of these celebrations...Pat.

It was planned last weekend when I dreadfully parted ways with Pat in Annapolis, that I would go down to Virginia Beach (where he is currently doing a second block pilot cruise) to spend this long weekend with him...but Monday I was informed that he would be gone for a week starting three days ago.  Gone on a carrier.  A ship.  Who knows where...on the Fourth of July.

The first few days were okay, I was busy with my internship and work...but today was tough because I spent the day with my family celebrating.  Pat and I are always to an extent, long distance.  Yet, I normally can talk to him at LEAST by texts daily.

All of the flags are out, and patriotism for America is so prevalent this weekend.  Everywhere I turn I am reminded of Pat.  What stinks is I can't even e-mail Pat right now.  He is out of contact on the weekend that I truly want to tell him how thankful I am for him, and what he does.  The whole reason for this weekend is to celebrate the independence of such a great country...which is a legacy of those who serve, and have served in the military, sacrificing their lives, time, and families to defend everything we hold dear.

To me, being away from Pat this weekend brings a new appreciation to this holiday.  I know Pat does not want to be on a ship for the Fourth of July, nor do I want to be apart from him.  There will be more times like this though.  He will be deployed eventually, and there will be times where I am alone.

You know what though?

He's worth it.  He's worth being lonely, and having to kill bugs at my house all by myself, and being scared.  He's worth being long distance, and not hearing from him daily...and he is worth all my commitment and love.

So this Fourth of July, Pat will be on my mind.  Even though I am excited for the events to come the next two days, in the back of my head, it won't be the same without my best friend.

Sorry for the emo post, I truly am so blessed.  Blessed to have Pat, and blessed to be part of such an amazing country.

Guess Again Dad...Wimbledon

Hey Preps!


Did I ever mention to you that back in the day, my dad used to be a tennis pro?  

Tennis is my dad's passion (obsession).  Not a day goes by where he doesn't mention a match to me.  My home television has it's own "tennis channel", that cannot be changed, and as you can see from above, my dad had me out on the courts as soon as I was walking.  

Currently Wimbledon is going on, and well...I like to hear what my dad has to say about predictions.  Usually he is correct with his guesses on who will win the grand slam...yet today his two picks for the men's final for Wimbledon, both lost in four sets today:

Murray lost to Nadal...

Tsonga fell to Djokovic

Dad and I were both rooting for Tsonga.  He cracks me up, on and off the court.  I'd like to think we would be friends if we met.  

I mean how hilarious is this...as he surrenders to the newest #1 in the world, Djokovic

Ironically I was browsing through Brooks Brothers Semi-Annual sale, and found that they have a cute tennis dress included:
