Cruisin' With Style...Dreaming of Sunny Days Ahead

12 Days.
That is the current countdown until...
Mexico, Grand Cayman, Florida
Warm Weather.
On a ship.
With Pat.

Hey Preps!

It's currently day one of my spring break! Today I ignored all school work I must accomplish in the next week, slept in, took Sir Maxwell for a nice walk, went to the gym, and plan on watching every "My Fair Wedding" rerun until The Bachelor comes on.  Ode to being lazy!

My only complaint that the warm weather experienced this weekend is long gone as I bitterly watch the snow fall yet again.  Come on spring! I know you want to burst through! I am counting on you!

Yesterday I promised I would show you all of my secret shopping finds from Georgetown.  So here they are:
This light pink boyfriend blazer by Stella McCartney
has been a piece I have been dying to have in my wardrobe
I found a much less expensive version at H&M.
Cannot wait to wear it.  What do ya'll think of all the new spring pinks?

The shorts from J. Crew are a lightweight fabric that will be
a perfect summer piece for my wardrobe, and can be worn
in many versatile ways (an example shown below)
Plus, I love the green color!

The purchase I was persuaded into by Pat,
He truly loves Lacoste, and I truly love hot pink
It will be cute to accessorize with the shorts at some point
No?

Patchwork belt from Vineyard Vines was something
I have been meaning to get for a while now, but with
Pat finding amazing chinos there, I was guilted into making
a smaller purchase

Now of course, Pat surely did not go home empty handed.  Matter of fact, he found a lot of great things that will be perfect for the cruise, and for this spring! I may be more excited about his outfits than my own! Crazy right?

Pat found these over the top adorable
plaid chinos at Vineyard Vines.  He can wear them
golfing, to a croquet match against Johns Hopkins, and on our cruise
He looked so cute in them I wanted to kiss his face off.
So I did.

Also not able to be shown, he found croakies from Southern Proper, Seersucker shorts from J. Crew, some nice formal slacks from Express, and two pairs of loafers: Penny Loafers included.  I can't wait to play dress up with him next weekend, and on the cruise!

Speaking of which...I put together two basic (a his and hers) Polyvores that have some of the items Pat and I will be cruisin' with...Enjoy!

We All Remember Saddle Shoes

Do you remember the day you learned how to tie your shoes?

Milestones like that have such impact on your life.  For example, the day I wore my first pair of oversized brown-rimmed glasses (from the 90's).  That was an era of my life I probably wouldn't go back to.  I definitely had my fair share of feelings hurt during that stage.  However, one milestone I was so proud of was the first day I tied my shoes...all by myself.  I can even tell you what kind of shoes I was wearing...

Yep. You guessed it.  Saddle shoes.  Black and white ones with a small wooden heel.  I remember singing the "Bunny Song" as I successfully tied those suckers.  I can tell you where I was sitting, the whole deal.  However, I won't make you suffer through the insignificant details.

Guess what though?

I am sure you have seen the Oxford shoes that have been the rave for the past two seasons.  I am also sure you have seen the Oxford pumps that girls all over America have decided to bombard their college campuses with.  BUT HAVE YOU SEEN THESE?

(From Lulu's)

These Navy saddle shoes will most definitely find their way into my closet this spring.  They are perfect to dress up a casual blazer and shorts combination...or to wear with a casual dress or skirt.  I am beyond excited to create outfits with these beauties.  As a matter of fact, I already did on Polyvore:

Join The Tommy Wagon

You know it's Monday, when you walk outside to your 8am class, and it is -3 degrees outside. You also can verify it is Monday, when you have a pop quiz in your 8am class, and upon completion, you walk outside and fall on a big chunk of ice.  Your butt gets nice and wet, and your books scatter across walkway.  Once you pick everything up, you are late for your next class.  Oh Monday blues.

Some days you can't avoid all the mishaps, yet today, my spirits are still high.  Maybe I am in a good mood thanks to the Steeler's win last night, or from the weekend I got to spend with boyfriend. Or could it be the fact that I am the happiest girl in the entire world? (I am so mushy).
I know my car ride home helped as I screeched along to Miley Cyrus' song, "He Could Be The One" (no shame). As well as the random texting conversation I have had with Pat all day that ranged from frozen boogers to "I love yous".

Regardless.  It's been a pretty dandy Monday all facts considered.  Oh, and did I mention I was looking fly today? Yeah, I said it. I looked good. Okay, before you get defensive.  I'm not calling myself "America's Next Top Model" here, I'm just saying that my outfit was very inspirational to Fall 2010 fashion guides.

Especially in the prep world.  Here we go again...
Who is my favorite designer ever ever ever? Tommy Hilfiger
What am I currently obsessed with? His Fall 2010 and Spring 2011 Ready To Wear Collections
and his Fall 2010 ad campaign.  If you want to see the extent of my obsession, please read this or if you want to see his Spring 2011 collection, read this.  My blog is already full of Tommy.

(Love the station wagon)

Today, my outfit was inspired by his Fall 2010 ad campaign.  In the campaign, we see a lot of navy and reds.  For material, we find corduroys and wools.  Trendy pieces like boyfriend blazers, heeled duck boots, and over sized shades all represent the traditional preppy wardrobe with a modern switch.

So today, I took full advantage of my closet's resources and came up with an outfit that is somewhat comparable.

I wore:
Plaid Flannel Button Down Shirt: American Eagle Outfitters
Navy Boyfriend Blazer: Ann Taylor Loft
Camel Colored Corduroy Pants: Tommy Hilfiger
Leather Knee-High Boots: Steve Madden
Studded Pearl Earrings

And just because I thought it would be funny, I must add this addition picture...

Don't you think we would be great prospects for Tommy's next ad campaign?

So there you have it, my obsession with Tommy Hilfiger leaks out again.  Hope you all are having just as great a Monday as me, and let me know what you think about my comparisons!

My Life According to Tommy Hilfiger (Spring 2011)

It's Friday night. 11:00PM.  I am a college junior.  What is wrong with this picture?
(My parents would say nothing, but I beg to differ)

After spending 14 hours mainly at my college's library today, I am hoping that my knowledge in Calculus III is that of Reimann or Newton's.  However, because I now am still bursting with energy, I feel I should indulge in something that has made my day spent in captivity a little bit brighter.

In earlier posts, you can clearly see my love of Tommy Hilfiger.  In his Fall 2010 (Ready To Wear) Collection, we saw Tommy spice up his merry-go-round of what defines a classic wardrobe with the perfect mix of old and new variety.  For example, the traditional Duck Boots, greatly overused in the 90's, are making a huge comeback thanks to Tommy.  He has made these classic and practical shoes legendary by adding a sassy heel to them:
Tommy has once again switched up and mixed up the traditional preppy wardrobe to make his Spring 2011 (Ready To Wear) Collection his best yet.  The heel added to the Duck Boot for fall has now changed into a coveted Sperry Top-sider Wedge.

We see the men bringing back edgier colors with Madras ties and colorful socks (and pants...but you will soon see, that has been popular for quite a while). Baby blues and pinks are brought back, as well as chunky blazers (SEERSUCKER!) paired with rolling the hems of those chinos.
For the ladies we see traditional fabrics such as khaki used in ways that are most unexpected.  We see double breasted blazers paired with bathing suit tops and a skirt.  Classic and sensible meets a tinge of sexy.  This truly is eye opening to the prep world.  What does Tommy call this collection? "Twisted Country Club"

I am in love....

So, being the Tommy fiend I am, I was browsing through my personal pictures yesterday, and came across a few that had wardrobes similar to that of Tommy's Spring 2011 Collection...let me share!

Spring 2011 collection compared to my simple button down oxford dress.  Differences? The wedged Sperry Top-Siders!

So as I listen to the sound of my space heater at my feet, and the wind outside, I find great hope in a colorfully unique spring, that screams "bring the classics back" in a twisted new way!

Tomorrow is Navy v. Army in Football.  BEAT ARMY!
